Gung Hee Fat Choy means have a prosperous new year and it is the common saying here during Chinese New Year. I don't know if how they do things in China... but here, the whole month of February has New Year celebrations. This was a Sunday afternoon at the Academy of Art Museum.
Allison was waiting to give money to the lion for good luck.
Here comes the DRAGON! He scares away evil spirits, he is fierce.
The costumes with two people inside them are lions. They had two sizes, the larger ones have adults in them, but these smaller ones have teenagers in them. Allison wasn't scared this year!
The lions sniff out money to eat, now we have good luck all year!
Lions are mischievousness and playful. This one took a liking to Allison,
it kept sniffing her and nibbling her arm. They were so funny,
probably trying to coax more money out of her :)
She had Daddy as backup but she wasn't scared.
She was petting them as they went by.
This is my friend Randy, his is part of the group that performed.
It was a fun afternoon.
